About
Andrés Garcia-Vélez is a Cuban-American artist born in Mexico City in 1993 and a long-time Miami resident. His Latin-American background is often reflected in his art. The artist has special admiration for his ancestor, General Calixto García Íñiguez, a founding father of Cuba. Therefore, it is not by chance that a predominant theme of his work is a celebration of freedom in all of its forms. Andres began drawing at age 7, winning local art competitions at ages 8, 10, and again at 18. It was during this early phase that he refined his drawing skills. Using charcoal he concentrated on creating portraits in black and white to express the inevitability of time. During the following years he pursued his professional education and in 2016, he graduated from Florida International University with a major in Marketing and Finance.
Recently, his work has been on display at various private events in Florida. He has showcased in places such as Ft. Lauderdale’s RAW Artists show and the aLoft hotel in Brickell, Miami, FL. Andres uses acrylic and oil paint, charcoal, and other mixed media to create pieces abundant with color and contrast. His commissioned work is on exhibit in both private and commercial venues in the United States and abroad.
–“With the use of mixed media forms, I aim to develop and capture different effects of movement and perspective”–
